2019 Early Learning Institute: Designing Your Days

Designing Your Days at the Early Learning Institute

As there are several options for professional development this summer, please take a look through the choices below to decide what you should register for. If you need any assistance in designing your day, please contact us at elcinstitute@utk.edu and we will be happy to help. All of the following registration options are available in our online store, which is also accessible by clicking the image associated with each option. Also, if you are registering as a large group, please let us know and we can make alternative arrangements for registration as the online system can be a bit taxing for groups with more than eight members. If you need to pay by check, please use the code CHECK at checkout. Checks can be mailed to 1206 White Avenue; Knoxville, TN 37916.

ELI Pre-Conference: $145

This year’s pre-conference will be a day-long exploration of documentation practices in early childhood settings. We will discuss content and methods of different forms of documentation and examine many examples of approaches and styles of documentation from both the ELC and other Reggio-inspired programs. This workshop will best serve program leaders and teachers who are either ready to launch new documentation strategies in their programs or who already do some forms of documentation. Once participants are registered, we will survey the group to find out the specific interests and needs for content so we can design the day to best serve you.

The content will cover:

  • Purposes of documentation
  • Planning for documentation
  • Collecting documentation
  • Interpreting and reflecting using documentation

Early Learning Institute: $175 (early bird rate)

The two-day program is designed to connect educators, provide space for in-depth dialogue about a variety of topics relevant to the early education field, and engage in hands-on workshops with ELC educators in their classroom context. This option gives you access to two days of programming (approximately 14 training hours), coffee breaks, snacks, and lunches on each day. Programming includes:

  • Keynote address with Will Parnell (Friday)
  • On-site sessions and workshops with ELC educators (Friday)
  • Breakout sessions (Friday and Saturday)
  • Lunch and Learn Sessions (Friday and Saturday)
  • Closing session (Saturday)

If you have been with us before and are looking for the typical ELI experience, this is the option for you.
