For Researchers

The UT ELC is designed and developed specifically to support the teaching, research, and service/outreach mission of the University of Tennessee, we warmly welcome the use of our facilities by others interested in learning about children, families, and those teaching and caring for young children.

All students, faculty, parents, or others interested in using the ELC for any type of research project must obtain approval. All formal research activities must follow the established process for receiving approval by the University’s Internal Review Board (IRB). In addition, researchers much receive approval from the ELC program. After obtaining IRB approval, researchers complete the Use of Labs form and submit it to the ELC Executive Director. Requests are reviewed on a weekly basis. In addition to formal research, the ELC serves as a resource for other types of investigations including student projects and observations. In these situations, the Use of the ELC form must also be completed and submitted. Anyone wishing to use pictures, videotapes, or other images of children, teachers, or parents must receive both approval for Use of the Labs and also secure release forms from the subjects for publishing of the images.

One of the primary purposes of the University of Tennessee’s Early Learning Center for Research & Practice is to prepare undergraduate and graduate child development and early childhood education professionals for learning about and teaching young children. We hope that you find the included information useful to your pursuit. Please feel free to contact us for further information.
